Basketball is life!
Here is a guide on how to shoot a free throw and jump shot (with a video).
Phase 1 Preparation and aim
Step 1. Feet must be pointing at the target. The target is the rim.
Step 2. Eyes must be looking at the target.
Step 3. Grip the ball using the shooting hand. The other hand is for support.
More explanation: Right handed use right hand to hold the ball and the left hand to help to balance the ball.
Step 4. Make sure the spread the fingers. Don't rest the ball on the palm.
Phase 2 Balance and power
Step 5. Position the ball several inches above your waist. It is also know as the "shot pocket".
Step 6. Bend arms like forming an "L" shape.
Step 7. Bend the legs. Hips move downward. This is for balance and power.
Phase 3 Shooting motion
Step 8. Move the ball upward. The ball should stay in front.
Step 9. Straighten your legs with your body, core and arm power all coordinated.
Step 10. Shooting hand should extend in a straight line to the rim.
Phase 4 Release
Step 11. Release the ball with symmetrical back spin.
Step 12. Follow through your shot by keeping your hands up. Fingers must be pointing at the target (rim).
Tips
1. Flight of the ball is important - Aim to arc the ball up, higher the the rim. As you go farther, you need to arc the ball higher.
2. Strong arms - You need to have a strong arm (dominant arm) to be able to throw the ball easily.
3. Practice - Practice more often. Muscle memory works if we practice our muscle regularly.
